Artist's Statement
Miki was born in a small city located one hour from Tokyo. She grew up and lived there for eighteen years with her family. Her major influence comes from her family, especially her older sister. They enjoyed playing with crayons on paper after school in their childhood. Miki was impressed with the possibility of expression we as humans possess. After she graduated high school, she thought if she liked to create and express something, she should start. She believes art makes her life happier, so she wants to continue creating art for the future.
One of her characteristics of art is to retrace her memories. She feels like she is being herself because of influences of all her memories in the past. It created and will create her. She has tried to grasp her images or ideas from a point of view but she realized that looking back upon her memories is one of the ways to get a new concept, so she treasures the re-connected ideas from the past. So, her works always reflect a part of her life. She always tries to express the emotional depth and shallowness in her drawing and likes two-dimensional art because it does not have limit in vision. Especially, she loves charcoal drawings. Charcoal is soft and sensitive materials, so it gives her drawing softness. Drawing for her is exploring life and she really enjoys it.
